Vanessa Maltin

Vanessamaltin_2 I was diagnosed with celiac disease while working as a health care reporter for Cox Newspapers where I covered health care for several major daily newspapers. It was a super slow news day so my editor had me attend the NIH Conference on celiac. After meeting NFCA Executive Director Alice Bast and learning about the symptoms, I went straight to my doctor to get tested...the rest is history and now i'm a gluten-free girl!

Working with the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness
Vanessa Maltin came to the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness after working as a health care reporter for a major national newswire. She was diagnosed with celiac disease after writing a feature story about celiac. After writing Beyond Rice Cakes as a fundraiser for NFCA, Vanessa came on board as the director of programming & communications where she coordinates the Foundation's celiac awareness events and directs outreach programming with other organizations, government bodies and corporations. In addition, she writes and edits the NFCA monthly newsletter and manages the Foundation's media outreach. Vanessa is responsible for maintaining the NFCA website and is the host of NFCA's new cooking show Alternative Appetites.
